The Challenge

The original ensuite had a chronic leak behind the tub surround that had rotted the subfloor and partially compromised one floor joist. The homeowners had been told by another contractor that the entire bathroom needed to be gutted and rebuilt from the studs.

The Solution

We confirmed the extent of the water damage with a moisture meter and found it was isolated to one corner. We replaced the compromised section of subfloor and sistered the damaged joist rather than replacing it entirely — saving the homeowners roughly $4,000 in unnecessary structural work.

For the shower, we used Kerdi waterproofing membrane behind large-format basalt stone tiles, with a linear drain for a clean, curbless entry. The heated floor runs on a programmable thermostat, and the teak vanity was custom-built in our shop to fit the exact dimensions of the space.
